3 Sports Injury Conditions that Require Sports Medicine Right Away

Feb 01, 2017

It is great if you choose to live an active lifestyle. After all, it is a great way to stay both physically fit and healthy. However, certain activities can also lead to some serious sports injuries. Furthermore, if you do not let a doctor examine your sports injury immediately, your condition might worsen and lengthen your recovery time.

Below is a list of sports injuries that require consultation with a sports medicine doctor right away.

Sports Injury

#1 Sports Injury – Torn ACL

A torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a common sports injury among those who play football and basketball. Your ACL can become torn as a result of a quick change in direction. A good indication that you tore your ACL is when you hear a pop in your ligament. You will then start to feel significant pain. On average, an athlete requires around 8 to 12 months to fully recover. Furthermore, it may prevent you from ever returning to the field or court.

#2 Sports Injury – Torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament

This kind of sports injury is common among sports players who constantly throw, such as baseball. Symptoms include pain when rotating the arm overhead and minor swelling along the inside of the arm. In addition, you may feel soreness inside the edge of the elbow and instability at the elbow joint. Recovery time for this kind of sports injury can take 12 to 18 months.

#3 Sports Injury – Broken Leg

Generally speaking, it is quite difficult to break your leg. After all, your tibia and femur are some of the strongest bones in your body and are capable of bearing significant weight. The femur is even said to be as much as four times stronger than concrete. However, many professional athletes end up suffering from a broken leg. One common symptom of this leg fracture is the snapping of a person’s tibia. A broken leg takes about a year to recover but it varies depending on the person’s condition. Also, some cases may require surgery to treat the fracture.

If you encounter any of these injuries, do not take any chances. Arrange a visit to a sports medicine clinic right away to prevent any more damage. A proper sports injury treatment plan can help you heal faster and stronger then before.
